Cahya Mata Sarawak Launches Its Inaugural Safety Month During The Annual CMS Health Run

Kuching, 7 October 2013 – Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS), the State’s leading infrastructure catalyst, is equally dedicated to its employees’ health and safety as it is to the progress and development of the State. Last Saturday, CMS launched its inaugural, group-wide CMS Safety Month 2013 campaign in conjunction with its annual Health Run, which aimed to promote healthy lifestyles amongst CMS employees and their families.

The 4th CMS Health Run 2013 and Safety Month 2013 campaign reaffirms CMS’ commitment to advance the safety, health and well-being of employees within the CMS Group. The aim of CMS Safety Month 2013 campaign is to raise the awareness level of all employees on measures to prevent accidents and the practical procedures to be adopted. Employees are encouraged to play an active role in helping the Management identify workplace risks, ensure health and safety controls are in place and increase the level of commitment to working in a safe and healthy environment.

CMS Group Managing Director, Dato’ Richard Curtis said, “We created these two initiatives to reflect two very important values we pride here at CMS; a healthy lifestyle and a safe and conducive workplace for our employees. CMS recognises that it is imperative that our employees maintain a healthy lifestyle filled with regular exercise and while on the job, safety is the number one concern as employees should look to ensure environmental safety is not only for themselves, but for their fellow colleagues. On top of their relentless effort to drive the company forward, every individual’s well-being is also highly esteemed by the company as a whole, thus inspiring the team to organise significant activities aimed at enhancing their well-being.”

Among the activities that will be carried out in conjunction with the CMS Safety Month 2013 include safety and health talks by the relevant authorities such as Department of Occupational Safety and Health and Ministry of Health, a Safety and Health exhibition held during the Health Run, video presentations on safety and health issues as well as display of safety and health promotional materials.

Over 800 participants, including CMS Group Managing Director Dato’ Richard Curtis, were flagged off for the 4th CMS Health Run at Tunku Putra School in Kuching at 6.45am this morning. Simultaneously, over 400 CMS outstation staff based in or near Sibu, Bintulu and Miri were not left out but were flagged off for their own local runs followed by the local launch of the CMS Safety Month 2013 and a prize giving.

The 6km-Run’s popularity has been steadily increasing throughout the years, with this year’s attendance topping 2012’s attendance of 400 participants.
