CMS Land Leads Prominent Gateway Towers Project In The Isthmus

Sarawak (Kuching) – 29 August 2013 – CMS Land Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (CMSB) in joint venture with Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) will be commencing the development of two significant additions to Kuching’s new 274-acre central business district (CBD) extension at The Isthmus. The two prestigious headquarter buildings for SEDC and Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), are poised to be iconic additions to The Isthmus.

The unique river island location of The Isthmus with its easy access to both Central, South and North Kuching thanks to recent road improvements will enable the State to realize its vision to see The Isthmus as the new Green CBD extension of Kuching. The two buildings are considered as the “Gateway Towers” as they are located at the main entry bridge to The Isthmus. Visitors will be symbolically welcomed into The Isthmus by the curved open palm like shapes of the two buildings. Both buildings will be Green Building Index-certified, as is the adjoining Sarawak Energy Bhd headquarters building.

Spanning across land sizes of 2.74 acres and 2.37 acres respectively, the LCDA and SEDC buildings will comprise 11 storeys each with a floor area of 11,000m₂. The buildings are anticipated to complete in 24 months’ time. The estimated project cost of each of the proposed headquarters including land cost is RM76 mil.

SEDC Chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip said that the SEDC Tower will be more than a headquarters building.

“It will be a symbol of the Corporation’s achievements and success – the fruits of the endeavours of the people of SEDC, we fondly call the SEDC Family.”

The new building will boost SEDC’s image as it moves towards corporatisation, and at the same time, accommodate all the staff of SEDC and some of its subsidiary companies.

During the launch, Dato’ Richard Curtis, Group Managing Director, Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad said, “The ground-breaking of these 2 buildings marks another big step towards realizing the State’s dream to see a well-planned Green CBD extension at The Isthmus. Already in the pipeline are several other major projects slated soon for announcement and construction which will further open everyone’s eyes to the attractiveness of The Isthmus whether for work, living, shopping, sports or recreation.”

“The buildings are designed by the award-winning architectural firm, Arkitek KDI Sdn Bhd, among which awards include the OSK Master Planning and Architecture Concept Design Competition in 2011 and the Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM) award for Best Institutional Building for Bau Civic Centre in 1991.”
