Naim & CMS Sign MOU With BDA For Development Of Samalaju New Township

Monday, 10 May 2010, Kuching — Naim Holdings Berhad (Naim) and Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (CMS) have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) to form a joint venture to propose to the Government of Sarawak to undertake township and housing development at Samalaju.

The Samalaju New Township, located approximately 60 km from Bintulu, is an integral part of the Sarawak Government’s plans under SCORE. The new township is earmarked to cover an area in excess of 2,200 hectares just north of the future Samalaju Industrial Park which will see the setting up of industries such as a poly-silicon plant, aluminium smelters, and a manganese smelter, as well as development of the Samalaju Port.

A new township will be required to cater for residential accommodation of some 5,000 employees of these industries and supporting business locating to Samalaju. The development of infrastructure and amenities such as schools, medical, commercial centres and recreational facilities will be included in the planning.

The joint venture between Naim, CMS and BDA will also seek to develop and operate world-class standard temporary camps and facilities for construction workers involved in the businesses locating to Samalaju Industrial Park.

The signing of the MOU was held at a leading hotel in Kuching this morning. Signing on behalf of Naim Cendera Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Naim Holdings Berhad, was Chief Operating Officer, Dato William Wei. Signing for CMS was Group Managing Director, Dato’ Richard Curtis. BDA was represented by its General Manager, Datu Mohidin Ishak.

Bintulu Development Authority is the State Government agency tasked with the physical planning and development of Bintulu Division whilst Naim and CMS are leading Sarawak contractors and developers listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia.
