SALCO participates in International Energy Week 2009

Wednesday, 4 November 2009, Kuching – SALCO was a participant in the International Energy Week (IEW) 2009 conference and exhibition event held in Kuching from 3 – 5 November 2009.

As well as SALCO’s exhibition on the smelter project to be located at Samalaju Industrial Park, 60 km from Bintulu, Sarawak, SALCO’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Greg Rashford, was a panelist at the roundtable discussion entitled “Commitment to SCORE”.

Among Mr Rashford’s main messages during the discussion were the steps taken by SALCO towards ensuring an environmentally safe aluminium smelting plant. “SALCO is committed to complying with world class environmental requirements, beginning with a first step to undertake a Detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (DEIA) for the Project. As part of the DEIA, members of public too have a role to play by forwarding their comments and concerns. This should give an assurance to local residents around the Samalaju Industrial Park and even as far as Bintulu that the environmental impacts and concerns of the Project have been identified and will be addressed”, he said.

Visitors to SALCO’s exhibition booth at the IEW event held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching included the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Cabinet ministers, Government officials, and members of the public
