The Games Are Back! CMS Games 2011 To Start In July

After a very long hiatus, the games are back! Come early July, the Group will be abuzz with excitement for their house teams participating in the CMS Games 2011 running from July till November. For starters, the Games will involve Kuching-based staff from all SBUs and operations numbering nearly 1,300! Staff have been divided fairly into 8 teams to compete in a series of tournaments in futsal, badminton, bowling, football and the CMS Health Run.

Team captains have been appointed and communications are now going out to inform who is in which team. From there, it is up to the individual houses to strategise who best to field for each game, to set training schedules and sort out requirements of the teams for additional sports equipment, attire and others.

Whilst there will be prizes for the winner of each game, up for grabs is the ultimate overall Champion house which shall be announced at year-end.

Launching of the CMS Games 2011 will take place on Saturday 2 July 2011 by both our Group Executive Director and Group Managing Director at the popular Arena Sukan venue located at Jalan Wan Alwi, Kuching. Thereafter, tournaments will be held on selected Saturdays over the course of July till November.

Group-wide sports carnivals such as football, badminton, bowling and futsal were previously highly anticipated events in the annual staff calendar. These included the CMS Track & Field carnival held in September 2005, Trophy Cahya Football in 2006 and Cahya Futsal in 2007. Following that the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 saw staff form their own teams to participate in numerous ‘CMS Doing Good’ community outreach events on weekends. This included setting up food stalls at charity sales-of-work and participating in runs to raise funds.

While these ‘CMS Doing Good’ events will continue, the CMS Games 2011 will be another great event to have fun with colleagues from other SBUs and operations, get fit and an opportunity to show off some great sportsmanship! Let the Games begin!
